How to be a classic beauty

Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis – all these women were classic beauties. They all understood that the key to classic beauty is to keep it simple and that less is definitely more!

Would you like to be a classic beauty?  If so, read on …

1.  Wear classic clothes and accessories
Classic women never wear trendy clothes. They wear classic pieces such as a simple black dress with a striking accessory, aviator glasses, a colourful real silk scarf or a simple set of pearls.
Think of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's famous over-sized sunglasses and timeless suits. You don't have to go back to the nineteen-fifties, but expand your wardrobe when possible, and learn to have your own sophisticated style.

2.  Keep makeup to a minimum
A little foundation, subtle lip-gloss and a hint of mascara can go a very long way. Learn how to make the most of your best features.

3.  Respect your hair's natural texture
Always aim for a shiny and healthy hairstyle. Consult a hairdresser for an opinion on what hairstyle will best suit your face and the easiest way to maintain your hair. Again, classic beauties wear classic- rather than trendy hairstyles.

4.  Have good personal hygiene
Keep fingernails, toenails, hands and feet in general looking well groomed and cared for. Maintain good body hygiene.

5.  Be positive, happy and confident
Classic beauties have positive attitudes. They are confident, even when experiencing problems. A classic beauty is always reserved, calm and in control.

6.  Know what you're talking about
Intelligence is key. Brush up on as many subjects as possible and keep abreast of international news.

7.  Wear black
Black is something classic beauties always wear. All you need to do is accentuate the simplicity of black with suitable accessories.

8.  Match classic colours to complexion and eyes
Find the classic colours that work best with your complexion and eye colour. For example:
  • Blue eyes: Orange (complementary), dark blue, dark purple, light green, grey, white, black, turquoise, blue-purple, dark red. Colours to avoid: bright red, lime green, hot pink, brown, baby blue, any tints (colours visibly mixed with white)
  • Brown eyes: Any pink, charcoal, any very dark colour, yellow, green. Colours to avoid: none.
  • Green eyes: Purple, dark red, dark blue, black, brown, off-white. Colours to avoid: grey, yellow, bright red, bright white, orange, green.
  • Black eyes: Any colour.
  • Ruddy: blue-toned/pink after exertion/freckled skin: Blue, purple, green, and all the colours in between, red-purple, black, grey. Colours to avoid: yellows, reds and white. Wear dark orange or red-orange at your discretion.
  • Sallow: yellow toned/tanning rather than freckling skin: Any warm or neutral colours. Avoid yellow, but golds can look nice.
  • African heritage or darker complexion: You can wear almost any colour. Golds are especially beautiful, though.
  • Red hair: Golds, beiges, corals, purples, very dark or light greens (just avoid the ‘Christmas green colour), dark blues.
9.  Ditch the idea of tattoos and body piercings
Classic beauties don’t do tattoos and body piercings. Find other ways to show self-expression such as creating works of art, writing or poetry. Consider taking up an enriching hobby such as pottery, calligraphy, or photography, etc.

How to Deal with your boyfriend's Ex-Girlfriend who won't leave him alone

How to Deal With Your Boyfriend's Ex-Girlfriend Who Won't Leave Him Alone

How to Deal With Your Boyfriend's Ex-Girlfriend Who Won't Leave Him Alone thumbnail
If his ex still has his ear, make some moves to stop her.
When you are dating someone, his ex has no place in the picture. If your boyfriend's old girlfriend keeps coming around, you have a right to speak up and, if you can, put a stop to it. Avoid any heated confrontations with her, but take charge and let it be known that you don't put up with an ex in the picture. You don't have to ever lose your cool.

Instructions

    • 1
Make sure you and your boyfriend are on the same page. Tell him you want to understand his feelings about the situation, and you want him to know how you feel. Open up communication about the ex-girlfriend, and you can actually strengthen your relationship with your boyfriend. By communicating instead of confronting, you can find comfort in knowing how your boyfriend feels about you and showing him that you want to hear his feelings on the subject of his ex. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to let him know the situation is bothering you.
    • 2
Examine yourself. You may have jealousy issues because of a history of being cheated on. That doesn't mean your feelings about the presence of the ex-girlfriend are not legitimate, but it may help you to cool down a bit and realize you bring some issues to the table. Taking a position with your boyfriend that you take responsibility for your own feelings can go a long way for helping him feel like you are not attacking him.
    • 3
Ask him to change his cell phone number. Your boyfriend can let all his friends know his new number, and he can advise them not to give it to the ex. She can't call or text if she doesn't know his number. If he refuses, it might be an indication that the previous relationship isn't finished.
    • 4
Ask your boyfriend to block her email address from his address book. Most email programs have a blocking feature. This will prevent her from getting hold of him online. If he can't block her, persuade him to get a new email address.
    • 5
Ask him to eliminate her as a friend on social networking sites. Your boyfriend can block her as a friend or any other kind of contact on his social networking pages, and she won't be able to snoop on him and write to him there.

I know I have been very quiet in last month or two. Been very busy. I found this article and I will be trying this out. I have a love of my life that I would like to make last forever <3

Hope you guys enjoy the article as much as I did.

Love lessons – how to make it last

When you fall in love, everything is ‘magical’. The first six months of any relationship is known as the honeymoon stage. If you can get past the honeymoon stage and still love him, even when he leaves dirty socks next to the bed and forgets to replace the toilet roll holder, things will be fine!
You don’t need to go on romantic dinner dates daily to keep the romance alive in any relationship. Always remember, it’s the small things that matter.
Here are some tips on keeping the love alive in your relationship:
Every day:
Take time to say “I love you” and mean it
Cuddle with each other
Kiss him long and slow, tingles and butterflies in your tummy are guaranteed
Talk to each other for half-an-hour about anything and everything
Be affectionate towards each other - don’t underestimate the power of touch
Laugh together, this can soothe a stressful day
Make each other a cup of tea or coffee first thing every morning.
Take turns making each other breakfast or even supper - create romance in your own home
Every week :
Try a gesture that will make your partner’s heart flutter - anything small that will let them know you are thinking about them. You don’t have to break the budget, just be thoughtful
Ask how the other is and listen to the answer
Make love. The passionate ‘stare-into-my-eyes-and-tell-me-you-want-me’ kind
Get sweaty with him during a tough workout
Argue. Mildly. Get your feelings out into the open, raise your concerns and your annoyances. Then make up
Spend an hour or five apart, doing something you love. Make sure you always have some ‘me time’
Sit in silence together for a while in some place you both love. Don’t say a word, just enjoy the moment
Every month:
Have a date night. Get ready in separate rooms or places, put in a big effort and enjoy the reaction you’ll give each other
Watch the sunrise together, or even the sunset
Dance and party a night away, even if it’s at home!
Bring up a personal joke from way back
Clean the house together, this can be quicker and so much fun
Try a new activity together like bungee jumping or volunteering for charity work
Every year
Celebrate anniversaries in a big way. When you think about all the relationships that don’t make it, you will realise that another year is a big achievement
Be creative in your intimate life, try making love in different rooms in your home, the pool and even the garden. Just make sure you keep it all private!
Write your partner a letter. Keep it a secret, pop it in the mail and watch his face light up when he reads it. Many years of love letters make a pretty romantic love story
Go on holiday together© EpicStockMedia - Fotolia.com
You could even go on holiday without each other. Yes, this sounds crazy, but when you are apart you will miss each other and realise how much you cherish special times together
Once in a lifetime
Make it through a major relationship obstacle
Go on an overseas trip. Take time to save up for this and decide to go when you are both financially able to
Invest in something like property or shares
Get lost in another country or city, it will be terrifying at first, but you will soon discover the romance in getting lost
Become parents - if kids are not for you, adopt or buy a pet
Celebrate your time together. Get married or have a big anniversary party

Growing herbs

Growing herbs can be fun. Found this article on the internet.

A herb is understood to be any plant that can be used to provide fragrance, flavour, colouring, essential oils or medicinal properties. Though the oldest of cultivated plants, they are enjoying a new wave of interest due to their many and varied benefits. The magic of herbs cannot be described in a small space but we suggest that you start by cultivating those herbs that you normally use and start experimenting from there.
Plant selection
Whether you choose a formal herb garden, a loose arrangement of herbs in a mixed bed, a chequerboard paved area or just a few pots and hanging baskets, depends on your space and the purpose your herbs are to serve.
Bear in mind the growing habits of the plants - tall at the back, low-growing as front edging and creeping as groundcover.
Isolate the invasive herbs like the mints and tarragon to keep them under control.
Growing position and soil
Most herbs do best in a sunny position (at least 6 hours a day) in well-draining soil.
When preparing the planting area, work a thick layer of compost, some bone meal and, if needed sand, into the soil. Mint and parsley can take a slightly shaded position, heavier soil and more water.
Remove the herbs from their containers (taking care to protect the roots) and plant at the depth as the soil around it. Fill hole and compact the soil around the plant.
A layer of organic mulch or a groundcover will keep soil temperature even, evaporation minimal and slowly replenishes nutrients.
Watering and feeding
Most herbs are hardy and tolerant of dry conditions, so water only as the soil begins to dry out, never allowing it to remain soggy.
Use diluted solutions of organic fertilisers regularly (± every 3 weeks) rather than infrequent heavy chemical applications.
Container planting
Herbs in containers should be planted in a good herb potting soil and fed and watered more frequently than those planted in the garden.
Mixed plantings in troughs, hanging baskets or pots can be most effective and space saving. Make sure that the plants are compatible (mint and parsley do not mix, nor sage and basil), won't compete for root space and enjoy similar growing and watering conditions. Containers should be deep and have plenty of drainage material (broken crock and sand) at the bottom. Plant thyme, marjoram (they'll trail softly over the edge), rosemary or sage at the outer edge or where they can enjoy drier conditions.
Keep your herb containers near the kitchen if possible for a fresh supply at all times.
Propagation
Lifestyle Home Garden stocks a wide range of herb seeds and healthy seedlings and plants. Annuals like basil, dill and coriander need to be replaced each year, while perennials can be cut back and rejuvenated with compost and fertiliser at the end of winter and can be divided, layered or grown from slip.
Harvesting
Use herbs fresh in cooking, teas and preparations.
Most annuals can be dried to ensure a supply in the winter. If you are drying your herbs it is best done when the plant is at the peak point of its growth cycle when the volatile oils are most concentrated. This is in the morning after dew has dried. Hang small bunches in the shade, in a dry, airy place to dry quickly and bottle when completely dry. Store in a dark place.

Buttermilk loaves

Well when having guests over for tea and cake, this is a very cute idea to serve on the day.

Makes 12
Preparation time: 30 Minute
Cooking time: 20 Minute
Oven Temperature: 180 Celsius

Ingredients:
125 g unsalted butter softened
175 g Castor Sugar
225 g Plain flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Bi carbonated Sugar
3 Eggs
225 ml Buttermilk
2 tbsp Chopped dried sour cherries
2 tbsp Desiccated Coconut

Icing:
175 g Icing Sugar
2-3 tbsp Coconut milk
12 Cherries halved

Method:
Beat the butter and castor sugar together in a mixing bowl until pale and creamy
Gradually beat the eggs into the creamed mixture a little at a time, beating well after each addition and adding a tablespoon of the flour to prevent the mixture curdling.
Sieve together the remaining flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda.
Stir in the sieved flour, the buttermilk, cherries and desiccated coconut until the ingredients are evenly combined. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
Place the mini loaf molds onto a baking sheet and spoon in enough of the mixture to half fill them.

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until risen, golden brown and springy to the touch.
A skewer pushed into the center of one of the loaves should come out clean.
Cool in the molds for 5 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
For the icing, sieve the icing sugar into a bowl and stir in the coconut milk to make a smooth icing.
Drizzle or spread it over the loaves.
Top each one with half a dried cherry.

Spoil your loved one

Hi Everyone

So I have counted today Valentine's day is 20 days away and the perfect time to spoil the person you love. I have found this cute breakfast idea on the internet and plan to make it on Valentine's day morning.

Strawberry Nutella Stacked French Toast.

Strawberry-Nutella-Stacked-French-Toast

- 3 heart shaped pieces of challah bread
- your favorite french toast batter (for this recipe; used 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla, and 1/4 tsp cinnamon)
- 3 large sliced organic strawberries
- 2 pads of salted butter
- 2 tbs of Mascarpone Cheese
- 2 tbs of Nutella
Once you get your bread cut up into hearts and your french toast batter whisked, heat your skillet to medium high and melt some butter.
Then lightly submerge your challah for a hot sec into the batter. After you dredge each piece, carefully place on your skillet without getting too much drip-age everywhere.
Once the hearts become nice and beautiful on each side, take them off your skillet and let them cool for a few minutes. You don’t want to melt the mascarpone too soon.
Once they are the perfect temperature (i prefer room-temp) gently spread on your mascarpone.
Lay on some of those strawberries and spread on half the nutella onto one heart
Stack it on top, nutella side down and then smear some MORE nutella on the other side.
Add some more berries!
For the almost last step, smear on some more mascarpone!
Then place the last heart, mascarpone side down, on top of your beautiful pile of sweetness
And now if you want to make this treat extra special, some whipped on top and dust with some cinnamon!
Enjoy!

A Biginner's guide to running

If you’ve considered running but struggle to commit, be inspired by runner Feige Lewin as she tells us how she managed to get off the couch and take to the road…

All I could hear was my heart beating rapidly. Sweat trickled down my back. A stich jabbed at my side. I could hardly breathe. I stopped, turned around and defiantly walked back home. It was my first run. Later I tracked the distance and it was only one kilometre!
I thought about that first day while running down the same road, dripping wet after running 24km in the pouring rain. My pace was steady, my breathing measured and my heart relaxed. How is it possible that the same woman, who couldn’t handle one kilometre just over two years ago, now had more than 2 500 (enjoyable) kilometres under her belt?
In the past two years I’ve tried and learned many things about running, my transformation didn’t happen overnight, but my experience could help you get off the couch and out the door TODAY!
1. It’s all in the mind (and not in your legs) - What got me out the door on day one and back out the door on day two was mental determination. I had decided that I was going to do it and that is what ensured my success.
2. Don’t make excuses - You don’t need high tech running shoes, clothes or gear to start. Take what you have now and give it a try. Once you have the hang of it and know you WILL stay the course, head over to a specialist running shoe store to get fitted for the best shoe for you. Anything on top of that is nice to have – not a have to have!
3. Set small goals - In Don Oliver’s book ‘Make sure of your Comrades medal’; he speaks about approaching training in “biteable bits and chewable chunks”. This is how you should approach beginning to run. Start with what you feel. Walk around your block and alternate between walking and jogging in minute increments or over the length of street lamps/ houses. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you or how short the distance is. Start slow and build slow.
4. Shut out negative 'noise' - Don’t let negative voices downplay and undermine the little steps you’re taking to a better you. Your neighbour or co-worker might be able to run five kilometres in her sleep at six minutes per kilometre without breaking a sweat - so what?! Your accomplishments are just as impressive and important.
5. Make time - Everyone has spare minutes in their day. It is up to you to decide how you’re going to use them. Never say ‘I only have five minutes, it’s not worth it.’ A little is always better than nothing. A favourite quote of mine is, “If you went running when you first started thinking about it, you’d be back by now.”
6. Don’t give up - I am not going to lie, the beginning is hard. You might hate it and think about quitting but hang in there, long enough for the habit to form (I hear it takes only 28 days), and the rewards will be greater than your highest expectations!
Have any fears or concerns about starting to run? Tell me about in the comments below and I’ll do my best to reply and help you on your journey to a fitter you!

Feige’s Week of Running

Wat makeer my roosboom?

Spuit met insekdoder of voeg knoffelpoeier by jou spuitmengsel, want hulle hou nie daarvan nie.

CMR-kewer – dieselfde as by die vrugtekewers.
By rose is dopluise ’n teken van ’n swak ontwikkelde wortelstelsel by die plant.
Droogte Elke roosplant moet weekliks minstens twintig liter water kry.
