Spoil your loved one

Hi Everyone

So I have counted today Valentine's day is 20 days away and the perfect time to spoil the person you love. I have found this cute breakfast idea on the internet and plan to make it on Valentine's day morning.

Strawberry Nutella Stacked French Toast.

Strawberry-Nutella-Stacked-French-Toast

- 3 heart shaped pieces of challah bread
- your favorite french toast batter (for this recipe; used 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla, and 1/4 tsp cinnamon)
- 3 large sliced organic strawberries
- 2 pads of salted butter
- 2 tbs of Mascarpone Cheese
- 2 tbs of Nutella
Once you get your bread cut up into hearts and your french toast batter whisked, heat your skillet to medium high and melt some butter.
Then lightly submerge your challah for a hot sec into the batter. After you dredge each piece, carefully place on your skillet without getting too much drip-age everywhere.
Once the hearts become nice and beautiful on each side, take them off your skillet and let them cool for a few minutes. You don’t want to melt the mascarpone too soon.
Once they are the perfect temperature (i prefer room-temp) gently spread on your mascarpone.
Lay on some of those strawberries and spread on half the nutella onto one heart
Stack it on top, nutella side down and then smear some MORE nutella on the other side.
Add some more berries!
For the almost last step, smear on some more mascarpone!
Then place the last heart, mascarpone side down, on top of your beautiful pile of sweetness
And now if you want to make this treat extra special, some whipped on top and dust with some cinnamon!

A Biginner's guide to running

If you’ve considered running but struggle to commit, be inspired by runner Feige Lewin as she tells us how she managed to get off the couch and take to the road…

All I could hear was my heart beating rapidly. Sweat trickled down my back. A stich jabbed at my side. I could hardly breathe. I stopped, turned around and defiantly walked back home. It was my first run. Later I tracked the distance and it was only one kilometre!
I thought about that first day while running down the same road, dripping wet after running 24km in the pouring rain. My pace was steady, my breathing measured and my heart relaxed. How is it possible that the same woman, who couldn’t handle one kilometre just over two years ago, now had more than 2 500 (enjoyable) kilometres under her belt?
In the past two years I’ve tried and learned many things about running, my transformation didn’t happen overnight, but my experience could help you get off the couch and out the door TODAY!
1. It’s all in the mind (and not in your legs) - What got me out the door on day one and back out the door on day two was mental determination. I had decided that I was going to do it and that is what ensured my success.
2. Don’t make excuses - You don’t need high tech running shoes, clothes or gear to start. Take what you have now and give it a try. Once you have the hang of it and know you WILL stay the course, head over to a specialist running shoe store to get fitted for the best shoe for you. Anything on top of that is nice to have – not a have to have!
3. Set small goals - In Don Oliver’s book ‘Make sure of your Comrades medal’; he speaks about approaching training in “biteable bits and chewable chunks”. This is how you should approach beginning to run. Start with what you feel. Walk around your block and alternate between walking and jogging in minute increments or over the length of street lamps/ houses. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you or how short the distance is. Start slow and build slow.
4. Shut out negative 'noise' - Don’t let negative voices downplay and undermine the little steps you’re taking to a better you. Your neighbour or co-worker might be able to run five kilometres in her sleep at six minutes per kilometre without breaking a sweat - so what?! Your accomplishments are just as impressive and important.
5. Make time - Everyone has spare minutes in their day. It is up to you to decide how you’re going to use them. Never say ‘I only have five minutes, it’s not worth it.’ A little is always better than nothing. A favourite quote of mine is, “If you went running when you first started thinking about it, you’d be back by now.”
6. Don’t give up - I am not going to lie, the beginning is hard. You might hate it and think about quitting but hang in there, long enough for the habit to form (I hear it takes only 28 days), and the rewards will be greater than your highest expectations!

Wat is fout met my roos.

Ek het op die artikel af gekom. Dit is n goeie riglyn om te verstaan wat jou rose in jou tuin nodig het.

Wat makeer my roosboom?

As jy jou roos se siekte of voedingstekort betyds identifiseer, kan jy dit gou regstel en die skade beperk.
Blaaspootjie Dié klein insekte vreet die rande van die blomblare. Spuit met insekdoder of voeg knoffelpoeier by jou spuitmengsel, want hulle hou nie daarvan nie.

Botritis (vaalvrot) is ’n swam wat in warm, klam toestande floreer. Die eerste tekens is klein pienk kolletjies op die blomme, en dan verrot die blom. Gebruik Funginex en spuit die plante in die winter met kalkswael om moontlike swamspore te dood.

Swartvlek is ’n hardnekkige swamsiekte wat met reënweer en swaar dou kop uitsteek. Spuit met Sporgon of Coppercount-N, of spuit voorkomend met Dithane WG, wat ook donsskimmel sal voorkom.
Stamkanker kom veral voor nadat die onderste deel van die plant sonbrand opgedoen het. Sny die aangetaste deel van die stam heeltemal weg en gee vir die plant ’n goeie deklaag. Soms veroorsaak laat ryp dat die son die bevrore plantweefsel te vinnig warm maak. Spuit die plant met een deel kalkswael en vyf dele water. Die wit wat agterbly weerkaats die son en hou dus die plant koeler.
Geel blare beteken droogte – ’n deklaag en genoeg water is die antwoord.
Vrugtekewers is agter die geur van die blomme aan en vreet die blomknoppe. Ludwig beveel ’n piesangval aan: Sny ’n paar groterige gate in die kant van ’n afgesnyde tweeliter-koeldrankbottel en maak aan die onderkant dreineringsgate vir die reën. Sny vars piesang daarin en hang die bottel by jou rose aan ’n hoë paal of heining op. Die vrugtekewers sal eerder die piesangs as jou rose eet, en moet gereeld uit die bottel gehaal en doodgemaak word. Vervang die piesang gereeld.

CMR-kewer – dieselfde as by die vrugtekewers.
Amerikaanse bolwurm vreet die blom in sy knopstadium van binne af. Die middel van die blom, asook die blomblare, is dan vol gate wanneer dit oopgaan. Motte lê snags hul eiers op die knoppe. Spuit die knoppe met Ripcord of Karbasol om van die wurms ontslae te raak.
Dopluis is moeilik om uit te roei. Dit moet verkieslik net nadat die plant gesnoei is met Oleum afgevryf word. By rose is dopluise ’n teken van ’n swak ontwikkelde wortelstelsel by die plant. Dan moet jy die plant in ’n groter houer plant, of jy moet baie kompos, grondboontjiedoppe en selfs growwe riviersand in jou bedding inwerk.
Rooispinmyte val jou plant in warm weer aan nadat die plant droogte gely het. Hulle is moeilik om uit te roei, omdat hulle aan die onderkant van die blare broei en leef. Jy moet dus die onderkant van die blare bespuit. Daar is baie kommersiële spuitstowwe vir rooispinmyt. Jy kan ook ’n koppie suiker in vyf liter water kook, dit laat afkoel en dit op die rooispinmyte spuit – dit versmoor hulle. Moet dit net nie te dikwels doen nie, want dit belemmer die verdampingsproses van die plant.
Mosaïekvirus veroorsaak geel are op die blare. Sny die aangetaste dele van die plant af en ontsmet jou snoeiskêr. Verbrand die afgesnyde takke.
Plantluise kan maklik beheer word met Ludwig Taschner of Margaret Roberts se organiese insekdoders wat landwyd by tuinsentrums en afdelingswinkels beskikbaar is. Die liewenheersbesie en hotnotsgot is goeie goggas wat graag plantluise vreet.
Poeiermeeldou kan jy hokslaan met Rosecare of Bayleton A. Jy kan ook ’n organiese spuitmiddel maak deur ’n mengsel van koeksoda en Oleum of Citrex.
Magnesiumtekort Voeg een maal per jaar ’n eetlepel Engelse sout (magnesiumsulfaat) by die grond rondom elke roosboom.
Ystertekort Die are van die blare bly donkergroen, en die res van die blare is geelgroen. Dit beteken die grond is te dig rondom die wortels en daarom kan die wortels nie die yster opneem nie. Dit kan ook gebeur as gevolg van oormatige besproeiing (verdrinking). Sulke toestande kan ook dui op ’n tekort aan stikstof (donkergroen are en ligte geelgroen blare), fosfor (blare het donkergroen rande en donkerbruin vlekke in die middel) of kalium (donkerbruin randjies en groen en geel gevlek in die middel). Maak die grond rondom die plante goed los, voeg kompos en grondboontjiedopppe by die grond, en voed die plante met ’n roosvoedsel wat al die noodsaaklike elemente bevat, soos Phostrogen of Chemicult van Starke Ayres.
Droogte Elke roosplant moet weekliks minstens twintig liter water kry. Onthou dat rose na dae se reën as’t ware eers van die water “afgespeen” moet word, en nie dadelik net weer in hulle ou natmaakpatroon sal wil inval nie.

Hittestres Bruin vlekke vorm in die middel van die blare. Hou veral houerplante vir hierdie simptoom dop, en gee genoeg water. Sorg dat daar ’n dik deklaag onder jou rose is.

Wolluis Dié goggas suig die sap van jong groei en veroorsaak dat die plant doodgaan. Spuit met Ripcord of Aphicide.

Onkruiddoderskade Die misvormde blare word veroorsaak deur onkruiddoders wat jy iewers anders in jou tuin gespuit het. Sorg dat jy nooit op ’n winderige dag onkruiddoder of enige ander gif spuit nie.

Mielietert

Al ooit gewonder wat om meer te maak by n braa, behalwee die gewone aartappelslaai, groenslaai, garlic broodjie ens. Ek het op die lekker resep afgekom. Baie eenvoudig, maklik en goedkoop om te maak. Hoop julle hou daarvan.

Benodighede:
2 Blikkies Suiker mielies
60 ml koekmeel
60 ml suiker
60 ml gesmelte botter
4 eiers
15 ml bakpoeier

Metode:

Meng alles saam in oondskottel
Gooi in die oond

180 grade oond
Bak kvir 45 minute
Haal uit en bedien

Sit voor saam met garlic brood en aartappelslaai
